UNDER-FIRE referee Andrew Dallas will take charge of Rangers’ Scottish Cup fifth round meeting with Greenock Morton on Sunday.

The official came in for criticism after mistakenly showing a yellow card to Hearts midfielder Malaury Martin for a tackle on Lionel Ainsworth during Saturday's Ladbrokes Premiership clash, as the winger was tripped by his own teammate.

Steelmen striker Louis Moult was also left stunned by Dallas’ reaction when questioned about his decision to send off Carl McHugh for a challenge on Jambos midfielder Don Cowie.

Moult said after the game: “Carl has gone solely to win the ball. He has not tried to do the player. I asked the referee if you could still tackle now and he said ‘no.’

“If that’s the case I need to read the rules because I don’t know what they are anymore. I know I won’t go to ground on a slide tackle anymore.”

Dallas has been appointed to the clash at Ibrox between Mark Warburton’s misfiring Gers and Jim Duffy’s on-form Morton side on Sunday at 3pm.

Craig Thomson will also be straight back in action after being heavily criticised for awarding Celtic a penalty in their 5-2 win over St Johnstone on Sunday.

The 44-year-old will officiate the fifth round tie between Dunfermline and Hamilton Accies at East End Park on Saturday at 3pm.

Incensed Saints boss Tommy Wright blasted the refereeing of Thomson after the penalty call had led to the Hoops’ second-half equaliser on Sunday.

“I am not going to sit on the fence and give you PC,” he said.

“It’s not a penalty. If I live to 100 it should never be a penalty, never. How he gives it is beyond me. It is beyond me and any reasonable person how he can be 100 per cent sure that’s a penalty. He couldn’t wait to give the penalty.”

Elsewhere, Kevin Clancy will take charge of Celtic’s clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, while Willie Collum has been handed the task of running the rule over the first Edinburgh Derby of the season between Hearts and Hibernian at Tynecastle.
