AFTER racking up a record-smashing 29 games unbeaten domestically so far this season, Celtic’s sights will be firmly set on securing the Treble as the Scottish Cup fifth round kicks off this weekend.

The high-flying Hoops welcome Inverness Caledonian Thistle to Parkhead on Saturday, the side currently sitting bottom of the Premiership without a league win since October.

But this isn't the first time the odds have been stacked against Caley.

Exactly 17 years ago, on 8 February 2000, the Highlanders travelled south as huge underdogs to take on John Barnes’ struggling side.

The First Division part-timers went on to record one of the biggest upsets the competition has ever seen with a spectacular 3-1 win, giving birth to that famous headline from the Sun: "SUPER CALEY GO BALLISTIC CELTIC ARE ATROCIOUS."

Barry Wilson’s header put Caley in front after only 16 minutes before a well-taken finish from Mark Burchill pulled the Bhoys level. It didn’t last long though, as Lubomir Moravcik’s own goal put the visitors back in front before Paul Sheerin gift-wrapped the Highlanders' greatest-ever result from the penalty spot in the second half.

Two days later, and after just seven months in the job, Barnes was sacked as Celtic manager having lost a quarter of his games in charge at Parkhead,

Will history repeat itself? Celtic’s last meeting with Inverness was a 3-0 win in Glasgow back in November, but their first clash of the season resulted in a 2-2 draw – a result that remains the only time this season Brendan Rodgers’ side have dropped points in the Premiership.

Caley boss Richie Foran will be hoping his side can draw inspiration from that result all those years ago and ignite a much-needed spark into his side's bid to stay in the top-flight.
