YOU live and die by your recruitment. That was the message from Mark Warburton in July as he prepared his ever-expanding Rangers squad for a crack at the Premiership.

Warburton enjoyed an impressive strike-rate in his first summer at Ibrox but it was in October 2015 that he made what he hoped would be his most important signing.

The appointment of Frank McParland - a man Warburton insisted was ‘one of the very best, if not the best, in the business’ - as Head of Recruitment was seemingly the next brick in the Light Blue rebuilding job.

As pressure has built on Warburton this season, the dealings of McParland and Rangers’ transfer strategy have come under the microscope.

It is not just supporters that have been asking if Rangers have been getting value for money in the market, either. Warburton was flanked by McParland and assistant David Weir at a board meeting at Ibrox last month and the Scouser’s imminent departure raises further questions over Warburton’s future at Ibrox.

Here, SportTimes looks at the deals that Rangers completed during McParland’s time at Rangers.

HARRY FORRESTER

The midfielder was known to Warburton from his time at Brentford and made a positive impression in the second half of last season.

Has struggled to hold down a regular spot this term, though, and his strikes against Dundee and Motherwell on successive weekend have been his most important contribution. 5/10

MACIEJ GOSTOMSKI

The pineapple throwing Pole penned a short-term deal at Ibrox last January but left just weeks later after failing to make an appearance. 1/10

BILLY KING

After completing a loan deal from Hearts, the winger became an instant hero at Ibrox as he scored on his debut against Falkirk but that was as good as it got.

King was allowed to return to Tynecastle at the end of the campaign without a move being made to extend his Gers deal. 4/10

MICHAEL O’HALLORAN

Caught the eye at Ibrox as St Johnstone knocked Warburton’s side out of the League Cup last season and was soon making the move from McDiarmid Park.

Has never lived up to his £500,000 fee, however, and was linked with a move away from Rangers during the January window. 5/10

JOSH WINDASS

Swapped League Two Accrington Stanley for life at Ibrox and has shown glimpses of his potential so far this term.

Has been hampered by injury and struggled to put a run of games together. Rangers will hope there is more to come from the midfielder. 5/10

MATT CROOKS

Arrived at the same time as Windass but hasn’t made anywhere near the same impact after an injury-hit start to life north of the border.

Made just three appearances for Warburton’s side before leaving to join Scunthorpe United on loan for the rest of the campaign. 2/10

JORDAN ROSSITER

His relationship with McParland from their time at Liverpool was key to Rossiter making a £250,000 switch to Ibrox in the summer.

It is likely to be next season before the midfielder gets a chance to really show what he can do in Light Blue, though, after spending several months on the treatment table. 3/10

JOEY BARTON

As costly mistakes go, this one is right up there. Having backed the judgement of Warburton and McParland, the Ibrox board then had to pick up the pieces.

The controversial midfielder made just eight appearances for the Gers before a dressing room bust-up lead to his suspension and subsequent departure from the club with a six-figure pay-off. 1/10

CLINT HILL

The 38-year-old may be the veteran of the Ibrox dressing room but he is also the best centre-back in Warburton’s squad.

One of the few summer signings that can be rated as a success but is clearly not a long-term solution to a problem area. 7/10

NIKO KRANJCAR

Boss Warburton flew to America to seek assurances that Kranjcar was up for the fight this term but his season was over before it had barely begun.

His fitness levels never matched his ability and a cruciate knee ligament injury came just as he was beginning to show what he could be capable of at Ibrox. 5/10

MATT GILKS

Brought on board to challenge Wes Foderingham for the No.1 jersey but had to settle for a handful of appearances in the Betfred Cup.

Left to join Wigan last month after becoming frustrated with a lack of first team football this term. 5/10

LEE HODSON

The Northern Irishman was reunited with Warburton, his former coach at Watford, on his return from the European Championships in the summer.

Hasn’t been able to hold down a regular spot at right-back but has been dependable in his 15 appearances and is a solid squad player. 6/10

JOE DODOO

Scored on his debut after Rangers paid a £250,000 compensation fee to sign him from Leicester but has had little impact so far this season.

A double against Partick Thistle has been the highlight of the striker’s campaign and more is required if he is to have a career at Ibrox. 4/10

JOE GARNER

A total of five yellow cards and three goals sum up Garner’s contribution at Ibrox so far following his £1.8million move from Preston North End.

The striker is a bustling presence at the head of the attack but Warburton hasn’t been able to get the best out of him as Garner has struggled to adapt to a new style of play. 4/10

PHILIPPE SENDEROS

The Swiss stopper was the final arrival of an unconvincing summer transfer window and has proven to be another mistake at Ibrox.

Sent off during the 5-1 defeat at Parkhead, Senderos has only made another two appearances despite a series of unconvincing defensive showings from the Gers. 3/10

DAVID BATES

Youngster was brought in on loan from Raith Rovers in the summer and then completed a permanent switch last month. Yet to feature for the first team in a competitive match. N/A

EMERSON HYNDMAN

Has two goals and an assist from his first four outings for Rangers and has added creativity to a lacklustre Light Blues midfield.

Will return to Bournemouth at the end of the campaign but could play a big role for Warburton’s side in the coming months. 7/10

JON TORAL

It has been a slow start to life at Ibrox for the Spaniard but his performance against Ross County at the weekend was his best to date.

Was brought in as a replacement for Kranjcar so much is expected before he heads back to Arsenal in the summer. 6/10

JAK ALNWICK

Completed a £250,000 move last month from Port Vale as he filled the place in the squad that was vacated by Gilks.

Yet to make an appearance but has decent pedigree and should push Foderingham in the coming months. 5/10
