A JOURNALIST from L’Equipe called me this week to speak about Moussa Dembele.

Actually, he wanted to find out some information about Celtic’s Frenchman, who is still something of a mystery in his own country.

The gentleman admitted to me that while the French footballing public were aware of him being at Fulham, it’s only been this season more and more have sat up and began to take notice.

The feeling now is that he is going to be a future starter for the French national team and it’s only a matter of time before he wins his first senior cap.

Despite not being fully fit and starting last Sunday on the bench, he managed to score a hat-trick, with his first touch a goal from the penalty spot.

Although even the most biased supporters would acknowledge it was never a pen.

He then went on to score two great goals – the third won’t be beaten this season – and as the weeks go on the £500,000 spent on him feels more like a steal.

I thought it was interesting the French are only now talking about their young man in Scotland. They can see what a talent he is and the potential he has.

As with Brendan, I don’t see him rushing off. He has never given an indication that’s in his plans.

Dembele is at the right club and has the right manager to help with his progression as a top class striker.

Very soon everyone in France will know about this guy.
