STEWART ROBERTSON confirmed this week that Rangers are considering appointing a Director of Football as part of a revamped management team.

I think that is the best route for the club to go down but the new structure will only work if you get the right people in the respective roles.

If you bring a Director of Football in, then you are able to plan longer-term and you know that your strategy will be in place no matter who the manager is.

He, of course, has to be accountable as well and it will be the board who set his targets and analyse his performance.

Rangers want to avoid the situation like the one they are in just now where the manager leaves, takes his staff with them and you are back to square one.

The most important thing is making sure that you get the right men in place and Dave King and the directors know that they can’t afford to pick the wrong candidates here.

I know some fans have aren’t that keen on Alex McLeish coming back to the club and taking over until the end of the season. Maybe he could be Director of Football? Is that a job he could do or would be interested in? I don’t know.

The board will have a long list of names for both the Director of Football position and the Head Coach position. They will be working round the clock to make sure that they get the right people in at Ibrox.

I think having the likes of John Greig, Richard Gough and John Brown there will be a benefit to the board and they should get as many ideas as they can.

They are people that know the club, know what it is all about and know what kind of person is needed to come in and be successful at Rangers.
