STEPHEN PEARSON'S Indian Summer must seem an eternity go as he emerges from a Scottish winter.

The Motherwell midfielder has only been back at Fir Park for three games, picking up where he left off following a stint with Atletico de Kolkata.

It has been a reintroduction that has brought him back down to reality with a bump.

In his three games since signing for a third stint in Motherwell, the 34-year-old midfielder has been subjected to a 3-0 home defeat to Hearts, a 7-2 thrashing at Aberdeen, and that was before yesterday's daunting trip to Celtic Park.

As it transpired, his third game back in claret and amber would come with a spirited team performance from the men in claret and amber, who put up a plucky fight in a 2-0 defeat to the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders.

Despite this arduous recommencing to his Motherwell career, though, Pearson remains undaunted by the task at hand to help pull Motherwell to safety.

“That’s why I’m here. I’m here to help the team finish as high up the table as possible," he told SportTimes.

“We’ve had a difficult run of fixtures lately. Hearts at home, Aberdeen away and Celtic away, that’s been difficult for us.

“We now go into a sequence of games where we are hopeful we can do that."

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee was looking for a response from his team on the back of the catastrophic collapse in Pittodrie just a few days earlier.

The 90 minutes may not have offered up three points to go with it, buit the Well boss' request was answered.

Despite losing Stevie Hammell prior to kick off and Stephen McManus in the early stages of the game, Motherwell coped well with the threat of Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele for the most part, while Pearson had a good chance at the other end for the visitors during the first half.

“It kind of bounced in front of me while I was stretching for it, so I just tried to get a touch on it. In the end it was a good save by the keeper," he said.

“I thought it was a spirited performance and we were unlucky. We maybe could have got something out of it.

“The most important thing for us was to put a performance in and bounce back from midweek."

Reflecting on how he is enjoying being back at where it all started for him, he said: “It’s good to be back. I’m enjoying it.

“I’ve got a wee bit of catching up to do in terms of fitness and games. Hopefully that will come.

“I’ve played the last two 90 minutes so it’s good to get that under my belt.

“I’ve been over there before so I knew what to expect.

“It was good. There wasn’t much of a lifestyle. You were training, playing games and travelling more often than not. You only got a little bit of downtime which I enjoyed.

“It was a good experience but like I said it’s good to be back."

Speaking about Saturday's performance, McGhee added: “I think we can come out of here with some sort of confidence, belief or positivity.

“Coming here today when they’re playing as well as they are and getting the results that they’re getting – I think that we can be happy with the performance, the second half in particular.”
