Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he has no concerns about Celtic blowing away the rest of Scottish football.

The Parkhead side beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-0 last night as they continued their drive towards a sixth successive title.

Under Rodgers, Celtic have won 22 successive league games, prompting some criticism that their dominance of Scottish football comes at a cost to the reputation of the league.

The Celtic manager, though, has maintained that his only concern is how Celtic are performing.

“I’m not really worried, to be honest,” said Rodgers. “Some people will say you need more competition to do better in Europe. I don’t necessairly agree.

“We work hard, you can only beat the opponent in front of you. We’re developing our game, that’s the most important thing.

“I know what level the guys are playing at. We demonstrated that against Manchester City – we were the first team to stop them winning.

“Us, from little Scotland, were the only team they didn’t beat in the Champions League.

“So the league might not be that prestigious. But we’re playing at a really high level. They’ve got tremendous appetite.

“A phenomenal performance from the start of the season. But we’re never satisfied. We keep looking to improve.”

Moussa Dembele netted his 30 and 31st goals of the season during the window, while Scott Sinclair started the scoring with the opening striker.

And Rodgers was effusive in his praise of both players.

“I never give them targets,” said the Celtic boss. “I just want them to work very hard and function in their team. His [Dembele] work rate tonight was outstanding, quality getting better all the time.

“For a kid of 20 to be playing at that high level is remarkable. We think of Scott as a winger but he scores so many. We had to be patient at the start of the game.

“Eventually the speed of the all and movement gives us space. Scotty’s goal is a demonstration of strength, balance, touch and shooting ability.”

And Rodgers believes that the performance last night in the Highlands underlined the strides forward that Celtic have made since the Parkhead side were held to a draw in Inverness back in September.

“It was a really complete performance,” said Rodgers. “I think when I came in here in the summer, if I was to think of a performance that would reflect how we wanted to work and play, this was it.

“That was a demonstration of what we’ve been working towards. Defensively very strong and aggressive, denying them space, giving them no opportunity to play.

“With the ball, playing with charisma, mobility, penetration and looking a real threat.

“I said back then [in September] that the team would get better. Even though we played well in that game, there was no level of control like that, no idea how to press and work together.

“That shows how we’ve come on from that point. Maybe people will stop talking about that game now! It shows team are moving in direction \I want in terms of attacking philosophy.”
