Louis Laing was cut adrift by Motherwell just a month ago before rocking up at Inverness.

But the defender has hit out at his old team's 'diabolical' run of late, insisting he believes Caley Thistle have the better players to give him his dream of finishing above the Fir Park club.

Laing was in claret and amber for two years but is now desperate to claw back the two-point deficit on the Lanarkshire side and climb off the bottom of the table.

And given managerless Well have only won two out of their last 14 games - inclduing going down 7-2 to Aberdeen and 5-1 to Dundee - the former Sunderland man reckons the belief and ability is in Richie Foran's team.

“I don’t want to speak about Motherwell but their past results have been pretty diabolical," he said.

“They are conceding a lot of goals so something has got to change there for them.

“It would be nice for me to finish above them on a personal note and we fully believe we can get out of the situation we’re in.

“That starts against Partick Thistle next week.

“Is there more quality here than at Motherwell? They have some good players like Scott McDonald and Louis Mault who are both top, top players who are doing really well.

“But we have some great players here as well.

“As a squad I’d probably say Inverness tops it at the minute. We have a great group of lads here and everyone believes in the team."

Laing has settled in well at Inverness after a long period in the shadows at Fir Park.

Brought in by Ian Baraclough, the 23-year-old found first-team opportunities hard to come by under Mark McGhee.

Now under the stewardship of another former Motherwell man in Foran, Laing insists he's got his mojo back.

“I’m surprised, since coming in, that we’re bottom of the league. I didn’t really know what to expect when I came here," he said.

“But after three games I know we have some very good players in our squad.

“Hopefully we’re going to get out of this situation but we all feel positive about it.”
