Clyde’s miserable run in League 2 continued as they went down 4-3 at Berwick Rangers.

However, the recently-appointed management team of Jon-Paul McGovern and Peter MacDonald will have been encouraged by the spirit and the attacking play of their side.

Defensive work, though, is still required and that was highlighted when with a promising start was undone after 16 minutes. A corner from Scott McLaughlin was cleared and the Borderers raced down the right wing where Greg Rutherford sent over a perfect cross for Gary Phillips to volley in at the back post.

Clyde looked to get back level quickly and Matty Flynn was denied by Kevin Walker and Chris Smith saw a close range header bravely blocked the shot-stopper.

The hosts stung the Broadwood men a second time on 29 minutes when a through ball was deflected into the path of Rutherford who calmly slotted past John Gibson.

Clyde got the goal they deserved just two minutes later when Smith got the better of Walker when he forced in a McLaughlin free-kick and they drew level on 35 minutes when Pat Scullion turned the ball into his own net.

Incredibly, Berwick went back in front when the fourth goal in an eight-minute spell arrived from a thumping drive from Steven Thomson.

Clyde took the game to their hosts in the initial stages of the second half and David Gormley was not far off finding an equaliser with a powerful drive from 20 yards.

Berwick again punished Clyde for not taking their chances on 71 minutes when Rutherford deftly grabbed his second by flicking in a pass from Aaron Murrell.  The visitors got back into the game again six minutes from time when Gormley headed in from six yards with Berwick seeing out a late scare when Clyde goalkeeper John Gibson headed a corner goalward to collect the points.

Albion Rovers, meanwhile, remain deep in relegation trouble after crashing 3-0 to League 1 pacesetters Livingston.

Two goals from  from Nikolay Todorov and one from Danny Mullen clinched the points at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
