RANGERS take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday, April 23, the same stage in the competition they faced each other last season, with the Light Blues winning on penalty-kicks...

IAN and SCOTT (Bothwell) Now that the Old Firm have been drawn against each other in the Scottish Cup semi-final, we were wondering how often this has happened and which team has gone on to the final most often?

Good question guys.

Our records show that Celtic and Rangers have met at the semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup on nine occasions.

Of those nine Rangers have progressed to the final six times to Celtic’s three.

The years in question are:

1892 Celtic 5 Rangers 3.

1900 Celtic 4 Rangers 0 (replay after 2-2 draw)

1905 Rangers 2 Celtic 0.

1925 Celtic 5 Rangers 0.

1960 Rangers 4 Celtic 1.

1992 Rangers 1 Celtic 0.

1996 Rangers 2 Celtic 1.

1998 Rangers 2 Celtic 1.

2016 Rangers 2 Celtic 2 (Rangers won 5-4 on penalties).

As the record shows Rangers have had the upper hand in modern times.

In fact we have to go back to 1925 to find the last time Celtic, with a side containing Patsy Gallagher and Jimmy McGrory, triumphed over a Rangers side, containing Alan Morton and Dave Meiklejohn, in a Scottish Cup semi-final.

Of course as they say in financial circles, past results are no guarantee of future performance.

SOUL BROTHER No.1 (Glasgow) What is Mark McGhee’s record as a manager against Celtic?

Mark had two spells as manager at Motherwell and he also managed Aberdeen.

His first spell at Motherwell was from June 2007 to June 2009 and his second spell from October 2015 to February 2017.

He managed Aberdeen from June 2009 to December 2010.

In his first spell Mark transformed Motherwell from a team that just avoided relegation from the Scottish Premier League, to a third place finish the following season and took them into Europe.

His combined record against Celtic is 10% wins, 10% draws and 80% losses.

JAYDEN (Clydebank) – My Uni pal set me a poser the other day. He asked me which two Scottish Internationalists, who played for German teams in the Bundesliga, each scored in a 2-0 win over Chile. I’m stuck, can you help?

On May 30, 1989, Scotland beat Chile 2-0 at Hampden Park in the Rous Cup. Alan McInally, who went on to play for Bayern Munich, and Murdo McLeod of Borussia Dortmund were Scotland’s scorers. Only 9000 fans watched the match.
