DOUGIE IMRIE hopes Hamilton can kick-start their Premiership survival bid after the international break.

Accies slipped to the foot of the top flight standings on Saturday as they went down 4-0 to Rangers at Ibrox.

Goals from Emerson Hyndman, Clint Hill, Martyn Waghorn and Lee Wallace clinched a comfortable win for the Light Blues in Pedro Caixinha’s first game in charge.

It was to prove a tough afternoon at the office for Martin Canning’s side as the visitors struggled to make an impact in a one-sided affair.

Hamilton have faced Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and the Gers twice in recent weeks and Imrie is pleased to be out the other side of a tricky run of fixtures.

He said: “You can always do better. It is never easy coming to places like this and getting beaten 4-0 but we have a couple of week's break, or a one week break really, and then it is back into it.

“It gives us time to reflect on the last four or five weeks and we have nine massive games going up. Four before the split or whatever you call it.

“We can't get too deflated. It has been a tough four or five weeks, albeit we managed to get points off Aberdeen again.

“But the last two or three weeks, the goals we have conceded isn't good enough from our point of view. We need to keep going.

“We have a strong group of players and we need to give it everything until the end of the season.

“I think it (the international break) has maybe come at a bad time for us because we would like to get back into it.

“But it will give us a chance to get our players who have been out injured back, guys like Alex (D'Acol) and Michael Devlin, who wasn't far away but just couldn't make the game.

“Gives us a chance to get our more experienced players back and give us that edge to go into the last nine games if we want to stay in this league.”
