HE shares a dream with his brother. It is as a Son where Ross McCrorie is fulfilling his ambitions at present, though.

The defender has progressed through the Rangers ranks alongside twin Robby and the pair are now within touching distance of the Ibrox first team.

McCrorie is a prominent member of Graeme Murty’s Under-20 squad but has swapped life in the Development League for a crack at the Championship.

A loan switch to Dumbarton has given the 19-year-old a taste of first team football and the stakes are high at the Rock as Stevie Aitken’s side look to preserve their second tier status.

McCrorie has long been tipped as a potential first team player for the Light Blues and he is happy to take a step away if it allows him to get closer to achieving his goal.

He said: “At the start of the season, both of us were with the squad for the pre-season tour and it was really good to be there.

“We get on well together, we don’t really bother each other that much so it is good. We have played together all the way through so it is great for the family.

“I would have liked to have been involved in the first team more. Now I am out on loan at Dumbarton and it is a good experience for me. Hopefully I can get as much playing time as I can and I can keep getting better.

“The Championship is a difficult league and we are not clear from the relegation battle just yet. It is a different ball game in that division compared to what I am used to.

“It is a lot more physical and there are some good players so it is a really good learning experience for me.

“It is good to be playing in games where there is something at stake. Dumbarton are looking to stay in the division, players are playing for bonuses and contracts.

“It is a good experience for me and there is a real motivation there for me to do well for them.”

The move to Dumbarton may have taken McCrorie away from Rangers but he is not out of sight nor out of mind at Auchenhowie.

New boss Pedro Caixinha will hope to reap the rewards of the time and effort that Academy chief Craig Mulholland and his staff have invested in the next generation of Gers stars.

McCrorie pulled on a blue jersey to help the 20s reach the Youth Cup final as he scored in the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock just hours after the Old Firm draw at Parkhead earlier this month.

And the defender is determined to add a medal to his collection as he looks for another positive experience from an encouraging campaign.

McCrorie said: “I spoke to Craig and Graeme about the move and they didn’t want me to go on a full-time loan. I can still train with Rangers and then train and play for Dumbarton to get that experience as well.

“Hopefully I can impress the new gaffer. I have been training with him so we will see what happens. It has been really good so far.

“He talks away to the players and he has been brilliant. Hopefully I can push towards the first team and get my chance to play.

“I am really looking forward to the Youth Cup final. We got there a couple of years ago and we were disappointed to miss out.

“We are back in the final again so hopefully we can go one step further and win it this season.”
