RYAN BOWMAN thought he’d delivered a dramatic leveller for Motherwell at the weekend.

But now he’s just grateful he’ll be about for the delivery of his new BABY.

The Well forward who saw Alan Mannus dramatically deny him in a 2-1 loss to St Johnstone on Saturday has been on red alert for his new arrival.

While Bowman does his stuff on the park for the Steelmen, partner Louise is waiting in the wings to give birth to their bundle of joy.

Recent jaunts for Motherwell up to the Highlands and Aberdeen have brought their own stresses for the 25-year-old, who has had an emergency lift waiting to whisk him back to Louise’s side if needed.

However, with the arrival of the international break, the former Gateshead hitman is relieved he’ll be on hand to be the doting dad.

Speaking about the impending arrival of his second child, Bowman told SportTimes: “She’s due in just under two weeks’ time so every training session I’ll give my phone to Andy Boles, the sports scientist, just in case she phones and I need to shoot off.

“But I’m really looking forward to it now I Know I’m going to be about. It was a worry when we were up in Aberdeen a week or so back and the baby could have come.

“Andy had my phone that day and one of the media boys was on hand to run me down and I needed to get back quickly.

“My partner Louise and I are looking forward to it and at least we have a bit of a wait before my next game to make sure I’m nearby.”

Going back to that game St Johnstone at the weekend, Bowman is still trying to work out how he was denied his second goal in Motherwell colours.

With time at Fir Park ticking well beyond the 90, the striker glanced a Scott McDonald cross over Mannus and towards the top corner, only to witness a fingertip save that nudged the ball on to the post and along the line.

“We’d worked all week on getting crosses into the box,” he explained.

“Someone got across the front of their manand I’m a bit of an opportunist. I saw Scotty was wide and I’ve just tried to direct the ball towards goal.

“I saw it going to the top corner and I started wheeling away. Then he’s plucked the ball out of nowhere and it’s rolled across the line.

“I’ve never had an experience like that before where it’s not gone in. But what can you do?”

Despite not getting the right result, Bowman is hopeful about the spirit shown by Motherwell in what was Stephen Robinson’s first game in charge.

He added: “We showed a lot of character even when we went 1-0 and then 2-1 down.

“Obviously we got the equaliser and we thought the momentum was with us to go and get the second.

“Given the chances we had, we had enough to go and get a winner.

“When they got the second we didn’t give up and kept creating chances but it wasn’t meant to be.”
