Mark McGhee claims he was not fazed after being sacked as Motherwell manager last month.

After a season and a half in charge of the Fir Park club he was dismissed from his post in the wake of a 5-1 home defeat to Dundee.

It was a tumultuous end to the 59-year-old's second spell at the helm of the Well as Stephen Robinson is now tasked with hauling the Lanarkshire side to safety.

McGhee returned to work earlier this week to take up his usual role as part of Gordon Strachan's Scotland coaching staff.

And when asked about how he feels returning to work following his dismissal, the former Leicester manager was blunt about his Fir Park exit.

"I move on. I've been sacked six times so you get used to it," he said.

"You tire of the East Sussex cappuccino trail so I'm quite happy to be out of that and in the game again. It's good to be back."

McGhee stated during his time at Motherwell he was keen to get to a career goal of 1000 matches as a manager. He is currently around 50 games short of that mark.

However, he insists his experience at Fir Park hasn't deterred him from trying to reach that goal at some point in the future.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's World Cup qualifer with Slovenia, McGhee added: "Yes. I still intend to try and find a way of doing that because I'd like to do that.

"I've not lost my desire. I love being involved with the national team, it's an honour and a privilege. You're watching boys train and the level they train at is just inspiring.

"They are fantastic players, regardless of what anybody else thinks. It's just great to be here."
