ANDY HALLIDAY hopes Rangers can kill off Celtic’s Treble dreams and take another step towards their own Hampden glory next month.

The Light Blues face their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Cup semi-finals aiming to keep alive their silverware ambitions this term.

Celtic head into the cup clash knowing victory would put them just 90 minutes away from completing a domestic clean sweep in Brendan Rodgers’ first campaign as boss.

But Halliday, speaking at the launch of the club’s Community Engagement programme, knows it is an opportunity the Gers squad have to make the most of as they attempt to end a rollercoaster season on a high note.

He said: “If it doesn’t give you that extra onus, to try and stop that, then you are obviously at the wrong club.

“I’ve said it many times this season, you have to give Celtic credit - they’ve had a fantastic season.

“But it’s important that within ourselves as a group of players, we know we have the opportunity to stop that. So it’s going to be a massive game.

“It’s the Old Firm, there is pressure on both teams all the time. I’m sure Celtic will have it in their mind set that they want to preserve their unbeaten run and get the Treble. It’s up to us to try and stop it.

“It’s an added spice to the game. From our side of things, we want to win a ‘Rangers’ trophy.

“We had a good year last season but if we are all admitting it, we never really won what you would call a ‘Rangers’ trophy. So it’s our last chance this season to try and put that right.

“It has been a pretty inconsistent season for us all but what a way to try and end it on a high.”
