FORMER Rangers boss Stuart McCall reckons it should be a ‘no-brainer’ to hand Kenny Miller a new deal to keep him at Ibrox next term.

The striker is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has expressed his fears that he may be in the final weeks of his third stint in Light Blue.

Gers gaffer Pedro Caixinha has kept his cards close to his chest when discussing Miller’s future as he continues to assess his squad ahead of a crucial summer of transfer business.

Miller hit his 12th goal of the season in the win over Partick Thistle on Saturday and McCall believes the 37-year-old has to be retained for another crack at the Premiership.

He told SportTimes: “That is invaluable when you are a club like Rangers, you need a couple of experienced players to be in and around it.

“It is great to bring young players in but you have got to be able to handle the pressure and the expectation to win week in, week out.

“You need players in the dressing room who have been through it, both the highs and the lows.

“I don’t know the ins and outs of it but he has had a really top season and his fitness levels seem to be there. You look at his age but he is not struggling.

“If you have looked after yourself, then 37 is just a number. If you have got the know-how that Kenny has got, for me it would be a no-brainer.

“I don’t know the philosophy and what the new manager might want. For myself, it would be a no-brainer.

"He has the know-how, the experience and he is probably in the running to be the Player of the Year for Rangers.

“I don’t know why there is a delay but I would get him signed up for his impact and help in and around the football club, as well as on the park.

“You always need, especially at a club like Rangers, players like Kenny. The expectations are what they are and they will be greater next season.

“Whether Kenny plays regularly or is a bit-part player, he would be an integral part of the club.”
