RANGERS take on Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday in the sixth and final Old Firm match of the season, with the Light Blues looking for their first victory…

ALEX THE BLUE – I remember an Old firm League Cup semi-final in the late Seventies. Rangers won by 3-2, I think. The winning goal was an own goal. Who was the unfortunate Celt who scored it?

This match took place on Wednesday, December 13, 1978. Rangers did indeed win 3-2 (after extra-time). The score was tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Doyle and McAdam scored for Celtic, Jardine and Jackson got the Rangers goals.

Then substitute Jim Casey knocked the ball past his own keeper Roy Baines to win the game for Rangers seven minutes from time.

E SWEENEY (Springburn) A friend of mine in Sydney, Australia, attended the first floodlight match at Celtic Park on October 12, 1959, at the age of 12. He was not a Celtic fan, his team were Arthurlie Juniors and St.Mirren. He does not remember much about the match except that Wolves were the opposition. Could you provide the team line-ups of both teams and the score and scorers? Many thanks if you can oblige.

Score on the night was 2-0 to Wolves with one goal in each half.

Broadbent scored after 19 minutes and Murray added another midway through the second half.

Teams were:

Celtic: Fallon, Mackay, Mochan, Smith, Evans, Peacock, Chalmers, McVittie, Lochhead, Divers, Auld.

Wolves: Finlayson, Kelly, Harris, Clamp, Stuart, Kirkham, Mason, Durandt, Murray, Broadbent, Horne.

Referee: Tom Wharton (Glasgow).

STEELMAN (Bellshill) How many times did Willie Pettigrew score four goals in a single game?

He did this on five occasions. On January 4, 1975, at Fir Park in a 5-1 win for Motherwell against Ayr Utd.

His second was on October 25, 1975, again for Motherwell in a 6-3 win against Dundee at Dens Park.

There was then a gap of nearly five years before he again netted four against Dundee, this time in a 5-1 Tayside derby win for Dundee Utd.

Two years later on April 14, 1982, he notched four in a 5-1 win for Hearts against Clydebank.

His last was later that year on August 21, 1982, in a 7-1 win for Hearts against Clyde at Shawfield.
