JAMES TAVERNIER hopes Rangers can make amends for their Hampden no-show when they face Celtic at Ibrox this afternoon.

Pedro Caixinha’s side were comfortably beaten by their Old Firm rivals last weekend as the Hoops set up a Scottish Cup final meeting with Aberdeen.

Rangers have yet to beat Brendan Rodgers’ side this term and only have a Premiership draw at Parkhead to show for their efforts from five derby clashes.

The Light Blues are 35 points adrift of Celtic in the top flight standings and are in need of a victory to keep alive their faint hopes of overhauling Aberdeen to be best of the rest this term.

And right-back Tavernier knows the Gers must learn from a poor performance at the National Stadium if they are to taste Old Firm success this afternoon.

“Still just really disappointed,” he told the Official Rangers Podcast.

“It is something, as a team and as a player, we don’t want to lose against Celtic. Simple as that.

“I think it is the manner how we lost that is the really upsetting thing so we need to set things right this week. We have been working hard on the training pitch and preparing for the game.

“That is the best thing about football, you get more opportunities to rectify mistakes that you do.

“We have another big chance to rectify our mistakes that happened on Sunday and, being at Ibrox, we need to show the fans that we can compete and win the game.

“We have not beaten them this year and that is hard to take coming off last year when we met them once and beat them once.

“It is hard to take and we have to beat them [today]. We have got [five] games remaining and we want to win all [five] games. This one of them and we have to win.”
