Louis Longridge says that Hamilton are recharged and ready to give their all to stay in the Premiership after a welcome break last weekend.

Accies have chalked up two wins and two draws from their last four games, and Longridge thinks that his weary teammates had earned a much-needed holiday after their exertions.

The winger himself only returned from injury to make the bench in the win over Dundee last time out, but he revealed that even he has had to make sure he can switch off from the mentally tiring relegation battle.

Now that he has savoured the peace and quiet though, he can’t wait to get stuck into the rough and tumble of today’s crucial home match against Kilmarnock.

“I went up north during the break to a caravan that my auntie owns, and I like to go up there and just chill out and switch off,” Longridge said.

“Personally, I like to do that when we have a few days off or a weekend off. I like to get away and disconnect from the world with my girlfriend and just chill out.

“It’s a place called Drimsynie near Lochgoilhead that we go to. It’s nice there, the scenery is beautiful, so it’s nice to get out of the way any time I have a couple of days off.

“You don’t get a mobile signal there so you’re really disconnected from everybody and that’s ideal. I made the most of my mobile on the Friday and then I switched off the other two days.

“For me, I was obviously out injured for the last few months, but some of the players on the team would probably have needed a wee break even more than myself.

“They’ve been put through their paces with a lot of games that came thick and fast against the top teams, so they probably deserved it more than me.

“I am fully focused for the games coming up because it will be a tough run-in. I’ve been doing a lot of training and there is a gym up at Drimsynie as well, so I was able to do a little bit to keep me ticking over.

“I’ve made sure that I’m up to pace with the other boys so that I’m ready to come in and do a job if I’m selected.

“We’ve come back and the batteries are fully recharged and this week we have been fully focusing on Saturday and we’re hoping to get the three points.”

Longridge hasn’t played for Accies since the draw with Motherwell on Hogmanay, but his return couldn’t have been timed much better with five gruelling fixtures to come if Hamilton are to preserve their Premiership status.

“The league is so tight in the bottom half, so we won’t take our foot off the gas, but the mood in the camp is upbeat now and we’re confident going into the split,” he said.

“Every game now is like a cup final, so these are the games you want to play in, do well in and keep the team in the league.

“So, coming back just now is great, and I’m looking forward to the games. They will be tight and they will be hard games, and well-fought games, but I want to be involved in those and I’m excited about the games coming up.

“If you look at the table, from eleventh to seventh there is only four points separating us, so it will go right down to the wire. You’ll see some interesting games and some results you might not have expected.

“It’s nervous times for everybody, but it’s games that people need to embrace, and hopefully we can keep this run of positive results we’ve been having going.”
