Brendan Rodgers has refused to rule Moussa Dembele out of the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen later this month as the Parkhead side chase a domestic Treble.

The striker pulled up with a hamstring tear in the semi-final win over Rangers last month and while Celtic are unlikely to risk the player if there are any question marks over his fitness given the magnitude of the Champions League qualifiers, he will be given time before a decision is made regarding his involvement.

“He is still not training but working well,” said Rodgers. “He’s moving well. There’s still a bit of time to go. We’ll leave that as late as we can and see how he is.”

With 32 goals this season Dembele can count himself unfortunate not to have lifted the PFA Player of the year gong this season.

However, Rodgers has insisted that the striker’s contribution this season has not gone unnoticed within Celtic Park.

“He’s a wonderful talent irrespective of what the awards are,” said Rodgers. “The awards for all of us are greater collectively. Moussa has had a brilliant season even if he doesn’t kick another ball. To get 30 plus goals as a 19 year old in your first season at a big club, he’s done incredibly well.

“He might not be recognised for any of these individual awards but he’s certainly recognised from the management and the supporters and the rest of his team-mates.”

Rodgers himself won the Manager of the Month award for April yesterday, the fourth time he has claimed it this season.

“Personally, awards don’t mean a lot to me, but I think it highlights a lot of the good work that goes on all the way through the club,” he said.

"I receive it as the manager and leader of the football idea in terms of what we’re trying to promote, and how we are trying to play the game.

“It’s a great reward for everyone that’s involved here at Celtic and hopefully there are many more to come.”

The Hoops have been linked with a move for Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke, whom Rodgers took to Chelsea’s youth academy when the player was just 8. The 19-year-old hasn’t signed a new deal with the Stamford Bridge club and Rodgers is optimistic that the examples of Patrick Roberts and Dembele can encourage a flow of talent to Celtic, knowing that there is a genuine chance for career progression at the club.

Transfer rules would mean that, like Dembele, Celtic would only have to pay a nominal fee for Solanke, rather than the full development fee that would cost English clubs for the player.

"I think across the board I've always said that this is a huge club that will attract players no matter what but I think the compensation situation up here means that it's a very attractive for a young player, his family and an agent to think that you can come out of England maybe and come up to an absolutely huge club,” said Rodgers.

"You look at Moussa’s development this year. Look at Patrick Roberts' development. He leaves here a winner when he goes back to Manchester City.

"He's getting his hands on trophies and playing Champions League football. He's playing big games and learning to become a winner.

“There's a huge attraction here for any young player. What you have in England is some outstanding clubs, some fantastic academies but unfortunately there's only so many of them can play in the first team.

"There's a raft of huge talent and it would be silly for us not to be able to tap into that when maybe the right profile of player becomes available."
