PEDRO CAIXINHA admits the words of wisdom from Rangers legends John Greig and Walter Smith have been invaluable as he settles into life at Ibrox.

The Portuguese has won four of his first eight matches in charge of the Light Blues since he was appointed as Mark Warburton’s successor in March.

Rangers will round off a poor campaign in the coming days as they host Hearts and Aberdeen and make the trip to St Johnstone.

The Gers head into the clash with Ian Cathro’s side this weekend on the back of a much-needed win over Partick Thistle last time out.

And boss Caixinha is grateful for the welcome he has received from supporters and Light Blue heroes during his first few weeks in Glasgow.

He said: “Yes definitely. It means I’m not going to run away from my responsibilities all the time.

“Someone asked me after the last Old Firm game we lost at Ibrox if the fans were just going to start judging me from the beginning of next season.

“I believe the man who is in this chair should be judged from day one until the last day.

“Nothing is going to change. I know the history from Walter Smith – that he was winning the Treble and after that some people were still asking more from him.

“This is the situation that we need to live with at this club and I’m not going to run away from it. It’s about results that we need to deliver.

“I totally enjoyed his (Smith’s) company. He didn’t take a glass of wine so far. John Greig is more the guy that takes the glass of wine.

“Talking of a glass of wine, maybe I cannot invite Ian for one because when I first arrived he spoke about an espresso so I would be delighted to have one of those instead.

“Walter is fantastic to speak with. All the people that are connected with Rangers have given us a lot of support and help. They are always present to give us that if we need something from then.”
