Petershill striker Chrissy Hall is refusing to accept the time has come for the last rites to be read on the Springburn club’s Super First Division promotion hopes.

Current frontrunners Clydebank can assure themselves of an automatic step-up place with a win at home to Shettleston tomorrow afternoon.

While Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Blantyre Vics has Kilsyth Rangers looking odds on to hit the 49-point mark with a win in their final 90 minutes of the season at home to bottom markers Irvine Vics.

Petershill, down in fifth top spot and with two league games left to play against Irvine Meadow (h) and Yoker Athletic (a), can only reach 48 points at best.

But Hall, currently sidelined with an ankle injury, insists there is still everything to play for.

He said: "Getting two wins and picking up six points is not going to be easy, but if we can do it then I truly believe other results will go our way.

“If the Bankies or Kilsyth only manage a draw or should Girvan falter over their three remaining games then a play-off place will be ours for the taking.

“Our run in was looking even more of a tall order before last weekend, but the guys produced an outstanding performance to beat Kilsyth 5-1 after being a goal down.

"So nobody should be writing us off just yet, especially with Stephen McGladrigan back from a spell on loan to Rossvale and hitting a great run of form .

“He was nothing short of superb against Kilsyth and I’m keeping fingers crossed Glad can avoid any knocks as my chances of returning to help our cause are not looking too good and it might be next season before I’m back fit again.”

The 27-year-old recalled: "I picked up my injury in a midweek game at home to Shotts Bon Accord and initially I thought it was just a sprain, but here I am all of three weeks later and still not able to put my weight on the foot .

“Physiotherapy treatment hasn’t managed to put things right and the injury has proved every bit as puzzling to hospital doctors when I went for an X-ray so I’m left in limbo and able to do nothing other than wake every day hoping my ankle will be on the mend.”

Peasy boss Willie Patterson admitted: "Chris is a big loss to the team but I’m not going to offer up injuries as an excuse for our league position.

“The proof of the pudding is we have won only two games out of 12 against the top six teams and taken skelpings from Clydebank and Girvan in the process which is simply not good enough .

“Our fate is not in our own hands and we are now reliant on other teams doing us favours which is never a good position to be in.

”And being perfectly honest I don’t fancy Renfrew to take points off Girvan tomorrow or for that matter Shettleston to spike Clydebank’s guns.”

Petershill were not due to play again until hosting the visit of Irvine Meadow on Monday night, but they will be facing Rossvale tomorrow in a Central League Cup last-eight clash hastily arranged by the clubs after Brian McGinty’s men ran out 3-0 winners in their midweek third round tie with Greenock.

Rossvale’s scorers were Steven Seaton , Craig Holmes and evergreen front man Paul Maxwell making his return to Junior football after dropping out of the game last close season to take up a role as player/manager with Possil Y.M.

The vastly experienced Maxi who previously formed a striking partnership with Chris Hall at both Irvine Meadow and Ashfield has proven to be a thorn in the flesh of Petershill defences down through the years so centreback pair Paul Murphy and Kevin Nicoll can expect a testing afternoon.

Maxi’s former club Irvine Meadow are on the lookout for a new team manager …their fourth in two years …in the wake of Michael Wardrope revealing he will be following suit with co-boss Gareth Turner and coach Neil McGowan in standing down at the end of this season .

Former goalkeeper Wardrope had initially intimated he wanted to continue in the hotseat and his change of heart has forced the Super First Division club to move quickly and advertise their soon to be vacant post with a closing date of 23rd May for would-be applicants.

All manner of names are being bandied around as potential candidates however rank and file supporters favour the appointment of former Medda striker and current Dalry Thistle manager Gavin Friels if he decides to throw his hat into the ring.
