Stevie Aitken insists that he is focusing on the task of rebuilding his Dumbarton squad amidst speculation that Inverness are interested in making him their next manager.

The Sons boss is currently on holiday, but he took time out to speak to TimesSport over his future, having recently committed to a new two-year deal with his current club.

And despite rumours that the recently relegated Highland club are keen on securing his services as they look to bounce straight back up to the Premiership, Aitken says he is happy to be at Dumbarton.

“There is always speculation when jobs come up, especially in the summer when things are a bit quieter,” Aitken said.

“As a manager, there is nothing you can do about that, but it is obviously flattering when you hear your name mentioned in connection with jobs, particularly at big clubs like Inverness.

“All that means is that somebody, somewhere thinks that you are doing a good job, and that reflects well on what we have achieved as a football club over the last couple of years.

“I have just signed a new two-year deal at Dumbarton, and while contracts might not mean as much in football as they used to, I felt it was important to do that.

“All of my energies at the moment are being channelled into putting a competitive squad together for next season to try and keep the club in the Championship again.

“I might be on holiday, but the phone is always on and I’m always working on getting players in that I feel could do a job for us. That’s where my focus is, and until I hear any differently, that’s where it will remain.”

Meanwhile, Aitken’s squad rebuild has been aided with the news that Calum Gallacher, Kyle Prior and David Smith renewed their contracts yesterday.
