Celtic’s current team may be being called “The Invincibles”, having won the treble and gone through the season unbeaten, but they are a club with a tradition of great teams and brilliant players.

CALUM (Langbank) – When Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson played for Scotland against Slovenia recently, it reminded me of the time when Sandy Jardine and Danny McGrain played for their country. Can you tell me how many goals McGrain scored for Celtic?

Danny scored eight goals in 657 appearances for Celtic.
He also played 62 times for Scotland and represented his country at the 1974 and 1982 World Cup finals.

R. CAMPBELL (Glasgow) – In season 1960-61, four of the Glasgow teams were drawn in League Cup Section 2: Rangers, Celtic, Third Lanark and Partick Thistle. Can you tell me who won the section and what progress they made in the competition?

The section was closely fought by Rangers, Celtic and Third Lanark. Rangers won it with eight points, then Celtic with seven points and Third Lanark with six points.

Rangers went on to defeat Dundee in the quarter-finals 5-3 over two legs. In the semi-finals they beat Queen of the South 7-0 at Celtic Park.
The final was played at Hampden Park and Rangers beat Kilmarnock 2-0. Ralph Brand and Alex Scott were the scorers.

ALEX (Cathcart) – Seeing Neale Cooper scoring for Aberdeen against Rangers in the 1982 Scottish Cup final on Hampden Moments in the Scottish Football Museum I was reminded that he eventually signed for Rangers. How many times did he turn out for Rangers?

Cooper left Aberdeen for Aston Villa in 1986, then returned to Scottish football with Rangers in 1988, making a scoring debut against Aberdeen on October 9, 1988. Injuries restricted his playing time but he still managed 20 starts for the club. His final game in Rangers colours was against Hearts on May 5, 1990.

ROSS (Crianlarich) – Can you tell me who were the first three Scottish international players to score hat-tricks for Scotland?

The first player to score a hat-trick for Scotland was John McDougall of Vale of Leven in a 7-2 victory against England in 1878.

In 1880, Scotland beat England 5-4 and George Ker of Queens Park became the second player to score a hat-trick. Ker played five times for Scotland and scored in every game, with an amazing 10 goals in total.

The third player to score a hat-trick for Scotland was John Smith of Edinburgh University in a 6-1 victory against England in 1881.
