The background of the players that are coming into Rangers might not be from the absolute top drawer, but considering where they were shopping this time last year, the signs are encouraging.

Caixinha obviously know the Portuguese and Mexican markets well, and with the greatest of respect, signing players from Benfica’s B team as well as the Portuguese and Mexican top-flights is a world away from Leagues One and Two in England.

The spine of the team is now looking a lot more robust, and there will be more to come, but it is looking good so far.

Caixinha is bringing in players that he knows, and he knows the calibre of player that is required in this country now having been here for a few months and taken in the league.

He would know that to get Rangers back up there competing with Celtic again, he would need a much higher standard of player, and the board seem to be backing him to bring them in.

It’s wonderful too that he seems to be getting his targets in the door early. It shows that there aren’t many people knocking him back, that’s for sure, and it seems to be him that they have come here for.

They all trust him, which is good, and I think the Rangers fans have a right to be excited.

I should temper that by saying though that the proof will be in the pudding, and it’s important not to get too carried away.

We’ve seen it before a lot of times that players with great reputations have come here and been unable to handle everything that goes with being a Rangers player.

We’ll see how good they are and how suited to the Scottish game they are when they pull on that blue jersey.

I’m also pleased though with the Scottish recruit brought in so far in Ryan Jack. What a player he is, and if they can get Graham Dorrans into that midfield too, then that looks a cracking partnership.

Hopefully the presence of some high quality Scottish players can help ease the transition of a lot of these foreign lads into the team and into the new culture they have been brought into.

So, I am excited by the names that have come in and with those that have been linked to the club. Yes, we have to have a bit of realism, but the standard of player is certainly superior to what was there before.
