Kieran Tierney has joined the chorus of Celtic fans urging Patrick Roberts to commit his future to the Parkhead club.

Celtic are looking to bring the player back from Manchester City on a permanent basis with Roberts unlikely to break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team side.

Roberts played a pivotal part in the Invincibles campaign in Brendan Rodgers’ inaugural season at the club and Tierney is desperate to see him back in the Hoops.

“I would be delighted if we were able to get Patrick Roberts back, I really would,” said the Scotland internationalist.

“He showed last season what he can do and he was part of what was an incredible season for us.

“Ideally I am sure that the manager would like to keep that whole team together for another go at again for this season coming but it will be what it will be.

“I am on the phone to him all the time – I am telling him every other day that he would be better back here for another crack at it!

“It is out of my hands but I spent a full season on at him so here’s hoping it might have had some effect.”

Roberts chose to play in the Scottish Cup final for Celtic against Aberdeen rather than feature for England’s under-20s. This weekend the young England side created their own bit of history by winning the tournament and it is believed that a slight knock kept Roberts from teaming up with them for the latter games.

“He was on the phone before the Scotland game to wish me a bit of luck – but not too much!,” said Tierney. “He is away getting a holiday in at the minute but I think he has a slight knock that kept him out of teaming up with the England under-20 squad.”

Tierney played with a specialised mouth guard during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with England at Hampden but the player is still feeling the after effects of the elbow he took from Aberdeen’s Jayden Stockley in the Scottish Cup final.

The player confirmed that a part of his jaw was fractured – and it is believed that Stockley has never made contact with Tierney to offer any apology for his part in the incident.

Broken teeth and a broken jaw have meant that Tierney has been on soft foods and protein shakes for the last few weeks, although he was never of any mind to miss the Scotland game.

“My teeth and my jaw are still a bit sore but I was determined that it wouldn’t be on my mind when I went out to play,” he said. “I put it to the back of my mind and just focused on the game and it felt ok.

“It is still tender and I am still not eating properly yet but by the time I get back to Celtic after a break then I will be absolutely fine.”

Meanwhile, Moussa Dembele had Celtic fans in a lather after a cryptic social media post yesterday afternoon.

The striker, subject of interest from a multitude of clubs including AC Milan, Seville and Chelsea, posted a photograph of himself on Snapchat, captioned: “On my way to …?" while his agent MaMadi Fofana Mansa shared a picture of Dembele with a suitcase travelling through an airport.

Dembele posted on Instagram: “FanLuv, big announcement alert soon! Stay tuned! #BigMoveAlert #Dembelition #InVIncibleOnTheWay.”

Celtic have maintained that they will not sell the player and are in no rush to cash in on him.
