HEARTS have announced a pre-season glamour friendly against Premier League side Newcastle United at Tynecastle.

The Jambos will host the English Championship winners on Friday July 14 with kick-off set for 7.45pm.

Rafa Benitez’s side secured promotion back to the top-flight in 2016/17 after just one season away, beating Brighton to the title by a single point.

The fixture will see Hearts coach Ian Cathro take on his former club, as he had worked as part of Benitez’s coaching staff before departing for Edinburgh last season.

Newcastle’s visit will be the only pre-season game the capital club play at Tynecastle this summer, with all proceeds going directly to the Tynecastle Redevelopment Fund.

The club revealed in a statement that only three stands will be open for the game due to the ongoing redevelopment work on the new main stand.

Hearts will then begin competitive action with a trip to face Elgin City in the Betfred Cup group stages on Tuesday July 18.
