RANGERS have won the Scottish Cup 33 times in their history, with their last success coming in 2009 when beating Falkirk 1-0…

After reading a question in last week’s Now You Know column regarding Rangers 2-0 League Cup Final win over Kilmarnock in 1960, it got me thinking that the same year Rangers also defeated Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup Final. I think the score was also 2-0. Is this correct?

Yes, you are correct. On April 23, 1960, Rangers defeated Kilmarnock 2-0, with Jimmy Millar scoring the two goals for the Ibrox men. The attendance was 108,017 at Hampden Park. The referee on the day was Bobby Davidson.

PAISLEY BUDDY – In the season 1961/1062 St Mirren played Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Ibrox. Could you supply the team line-ups and scorers?

St Mirren beat Celtic 3 -1 in a tie marred by a pitch invasion near the end resulting in the match being temporarily suspended.

St Mirren took the lead through former Celt Willie Fernie followed by further goals from Kerrigan and Beck , Celtic did score a consolation through Byrne five minutes from the end.

The line-ups were as follows:

Celtic: Haffey, Mackay, Kennedy, Crerand ,McNeill, Clark, Brogan , Chalmers , Hughes, Divers, Byrne.

GREETIN’ WEAN (Priesthill) –When I was about 10 I remember coming out of Hampden in tears in the late 50s after the Jags lost a cup final to Hearts. Can you tell me about the match?

This was Thistle’s third league cup final defeat in six years They lost the ’53, ’56 and ’58 finals. The one you refer to was the 1958 final when Hearts hammered Thistle 5-1. Hearts went ahead through Willie Bauld with Jimmy Murray making it two after only nine minutes.

Bauld and Murray both scored again to make it 4-0 at half-time. Although George Smith pulled one back for the Jags in the second half there was no way back with Johnny Hamilton netting a fifth.

The line-ups were:

Hearts: G Marshall, B Kirk, G Thomson, D Mackay, F Glidden, J Cumming, J Hamilton, J Murray, W Bauld, J Wardhaugh, I Crawford. Manager: T Walker.

Partick Thistle: T Ledger-wood, J Hogan, F Donlevy, D Mathers, J Davidson, A Wright, J McKenzie, L Thomson, G Smith, D McParland, T Ewing. Manager: D Meiklejohn.

Scorers: Hearts: Bauld (5, 28), Murray (10, 38), Hamilton (60); Partick Thistle: Smith (46).
