ALFREDO MORELOS hopes he can shine on the European stage for Rangers after clinching his switch to Ibrox on Monday.

The striker has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Light Blues and becomes the sixth signing of the summer for boss Pedro Caixinha.

Morelos follows Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias in making the move to Glasgow and he is set to be joined by Mexican pair Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera.

The 20-year-old was handed his Gers bow in the friendly draw with The New Saints at Auchenhowie yesterday afternoon but he doesn’t have long to wait to pull on the jersey for the first time in a competitive outing.

Rangers will make their return to the Europa League when they host Progres Niederkorn in the first qualifying round next week.

Morelos has already tasted European action with HJK Helsinki and the Colombian is determined to prove his worth on the continent as the countdown continues to the new campaign at Ibrox.

“It was important for my career because I’ve come from a club where there was an opportunity to play in Europe so I’m pleased to have that continuity,” he told RangersTV.

“I was at one of the biggest clubs in Finland and I had the opportunity to play in the Finnish league, the Finnish Cup and the qualifying rounds of UEFA.

“In the first qualifying match, I scored two goals. So it started well, teams saw what I was doing and saw my development.

“All of this attracted their attention but in the four or five games I played, it was excellent for me – I was in good form. I was hungry and I loved playing every match.

“The league games were interesting as well but the UEFA games were more important and I sacrificed more to show what I could do, to do things well and to focus on scoring goals and this is something that helped my career and I’m really happy about it.

“I want to show this at Rangers too – to show much more of myself and as I said grow more, do things well every day and I really am very happy to be here.”
