There has been a little bit of agitation that Celtic have so far only signed Jonny Hayes this summer, but I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that at the minute.

Last Scott Sinclair did not arrive until August but it did not stop him from hitting the ground running. Moussa Dembele was in around early July, so there is plenty of time to get the kind of players in that Brendan Rodgers believes will elevate the team to the level he wishes to get them to.

The bottom line is that it is pointless signing for the sake of it. It has to be the right deal and it has to be a player whom you genuinally believe can come in and make a difference.

The loan aspect is one that has worked for Celtic of late, with Patrick Roberts a clearly successful move. The boy has gone back to Manchester City and I think he is probably desperate to show what he has got to offer City but I wouldn’t say that it is entirely dead in the water just in term of getting him back to Glasgow.

In so many ways, guaranteeing entry into the Champions League is such a formidable carrot for Celtic to use to entice players to the club. But it is something of a catch-22 because you might feel that you need that calibre of player to get there but they may not wish to come until the group stages have been secured.

There will be targets and there will be work going on behind the scenes but for now the full focus of the manager will be on negotiating the qualifiers.
