Aberdeen have handed goalkeeper Joe Lewis a fresh three-year deal.

The 29-year-old moved north from Cardiff last summer and made a big impression in his first season in Scotland.

The former Peterborough stopper's solid performances helped the Dons finish second in the Ladbrokes Premiership and battle their way to the finals of both domestic cup competitions.

Now Lewis, who was named in both the SPFL and PFA Scotland teams of the year after playing every minute of last season, has agreed a deal that will see him remain in the Granite City until the summer of 2020.

He said: "I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here and it was an easy decision to make to stay longer.

"My family love it here and have settled in really well and from my perspective, I want to win trophies here after coming so close last season.

"The opportunity to play in Europe regularly is another bonus and one that cannot be underestimated."

Boss Derek McInnes is still looking to strengthen his squad after losing five of his key men from last term.

But he was delighted to secure Lewis' services long term after he extended his initial two-year deal.

He added: "We'll be making signings over the next period but there'll be no better news than Joe signing on for an extra two years.

"He's been magnificent from day one here and he's a big hit with the fans. Joe is an integral part of what we want to do here and I'm absolutely delighted he's staying."
