BRUNO ALVES hopes he can realise another dream with Portugal as he targets Confederations Cup glory this week.

The defender has played at two World Cups and three European Championships for his country and is now 90 minutes away from another shot at glory on the international stage.

Alves helped Fernando Santos’ side to wins over Russia and New Zealand as they finished top of Group A following their opening day draw with Mexico.

Portugal face Chile in Kazan this evening as they look to set up a meeting with Germany or Mexico for a fight for the silverware.

And the 35-year-old is determined to end on a high note before he joins up with Rangers next month.

Alves said: "After being here for so many years, honestly, it still feels like it’s the first time.

"I can say that I still play with love for the jersey. It’s such a proud moment to still be here representing the team.

"I feel extremely proud to have represented Portugal in so many competitive games and in so many tournaments.

"This is one more very important tournament for me. I’m going to continue giving my best and to try and get another great victory for our country.

"I just love being here. Being surrounded by such great players in the Seleção Portuguesa always makes me feel joy.”

Victory for Portugal tonight would clinch a return to St Petersburg for Alves and give him a chance to taste Confederations Cup success on familiar soil.

The stopper won two league titles and a Russian Super Cup during his time with Zenit and would love the chance to add to his medal haul at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.

Alves said: "I was very, very well received here in Russia, especially in St Petersburg with Zenit. I’m grateful to everyone for the time I spent here.

“Yes, without any doubt [it would be special to play in St Petersburg].

“Playing a final there would be a dream, a real dream. But lets take this step by step. We have a game against Chile, so now lets continue on our journey to the final."
