LEWIS MORGAN will leave St Mirren for England one day - but it probably won't be this summer.

At just 20, this talent has naturally attracted much attention, with Championship side Burton Albion having two bids thrown out in recent weeks.

They are not the only interested parties.

Morgan is a sensible type and while not unaware of what is going on even if he doesn't read the papers - the swine - the chat won't affect what he does on the pitch.

Morgan said: "I love working with the gaffer (Jack Ross) and, obviously, when there is interest in you, then you just have to make sure that it doesn’t turn your head.

“I’ve got a job to do here while I’m under contract. I’ve got another year and until the club want me to go, then I’m here to play.

“I’m a player that tries not to get my head turned by it and I will always give 100 per cent.

“I’ll leave all the speculation to everyone else — I don’t take too much to do with it. Until anything is concrete, it is pointless paying much attention to it.

“It is a confidence builder knowing that I am attracting a bit of interest from teams in that league because it is obviously a massive league.

“But, at the moment, I have a big job to do here and, with the squad we have assembled, it is going to be an exciting season.”

The reality is if a club does come in with a good offer, say in the £350,000 ballpark, then it will be difficult if not impossible for St Mirren to say no.

Ross said only last week that while it had been the right time for Stevie Mallan to go, he moved to Barnsley, Morgan would do well to stay for one more year.

“Stevie is going to be a big loss," admitted Morgan. "I’m delighted for him as a friend that he has got his move but as a teammate you have got to be a wee bit selfish, I must admit I wish he had stayed.

“But I think we have recruited well and brought in enough players to try and fill his boots."

Morgan played well in Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat to Dundee in a friendly that was anything but friendly.

There will be competitive games this season with less fouls.

Morgan said: "It was a bit more feisty than your typical friendly, but it is important that we get into the habit of playing games at this intensity because we have some big games coming up.

“The result was obviously not what we wanted but I think the boys showed good effort and commitment.

“Bar a couple of set pieces then the game is a lot more even than what it seemed.

“The set pieces are maybe something we have got to look at but Dundee are a Premiership team, they have taken their chances but I feel we did match them more than people may have thought.

“We did dominate stages of the game so there is a few positives to take."

Morgan showed up well, he usually does, and is smart enough to know he has a bit to go.

He said: "I still need to work on every area of my game as I don’t think you can ever rest on what you are good at.

“I can always improve and I am hoping to score double the amount of goals that I did last season. Every single game that I go into now, I feel that if I don’t score then I’m not happy with it.

“I scored ten last season so 20 this year is the target."
