MOTHERWELL have rejected a bid for Louis Moult from Aberdeen.

An offer was received by the Fir Park club yesterday for the former Stoke striker, who has been Well's top goalscorer for both seasons he's spent in Scotland.

However, it is understood the figure offered fell well short of Motherwell's evaluation for the player who only two months ago was being linked with a move to Rangers and Aberdeen were informed this morning the terms on offer weren't sufficient.

Moult has scored 36 goals since joining from Wrexham in 2015 and the club are understandably keen to keep hold of their prized asset.

The 25-year-old only has a year left on his deal but Motherwell bosses are still hopeful that the fans' favourite will pen an extension that could see his stint at Fir Park extended beyond next summer.

Talks have been ongoing with Moult about extending terms and it's believed the forward is still open to negotiations to stay at the ground he is adored at by supporters despite interest from elsewhere.

Motherwell's stance this morning is in-keeping with the message from chief operating officer Alan Burrows and manager Stephen Robinson who were both quoted recently as saying the club's star players will not be flogged on the cheap.

Speaking back in May, Burrows said: “We will not, and I say this categorically, have our pants pulled down by any club looking to try and get a player on the cheap here.

“We’ve done it before in the past and it’s been hugely frustrating for our supporters, me included when I used to watch us lose good players for what I thought was not a lot of money."

Speaking about Moult's potential contract extension, Robinson added: "We have offered Louis a new contract, we are negotiating with him. And we're hopeful that he will stay."

Last month Motherwell rejected an offer of £100,000 from Hearts for rising star Chris Cadden. We understand that the Tynecastle club will not be coming back in for the player.
