NOTTINGHAM FOREST legend Kenny Burns is confident Barrie McKay can handle life in the Championship after making the move from Rangers.

The winger has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at the City Ground as he has been reunited with Mark Warburton and David Weir.

McKay scored six goals in 46 appearances for the Light Blues last term but fell out of favour with boss Pedro Caixinha before he clinched a switch south of the border.

After keeping Forest in the Championship last term, Warburton is now reshaping his squad for his first full campaign in charge of the Reds.

He faces a fight to hold onto highly-rated attacker Ben Osborn after he was linked with a move to newly-promoted Newcastle United this summer.

But former Scotland and Forest hero Burns reckons McKay has been signed to compliment the Reds forward line and not as a replacement for the England youth international.

“I don't think the arrival of Barrie McKay at Forest means Ben Osborn could be on his way," he told the Nottingham Post.

“The pair might be able to play in the same positions, but that doesn't mean Mark Warburton has brought in McKay from his old club Rangers as a replacement for Osborn, who has attracted interest from a few Premier League clubs.

“I'm sure there's room in the team for both of them – one could play out wide and the other one in the No.10 role, and they could even swap during matches.

“From what I've seen of McKay playing for Rangers, he looks a quality little player.

“A lot of people rated him as their best player, so I hope he does the business for Forest now.

“Playing in the Championship will be new to him, having spent all of his career so far up in Scotland.

“But Warburton will know him inside out, he clearly thinks he can make the grade in England and you have to trust his judgement.”
