Hoops kid Kristoffer Ajer will return to his homeland next week looking to get one over his fellow countrymen.

The 19-year-old made his first start for Celtic last night after being drafted in to cover the injury to Dedryck Boyata and was impressive at the back.

"It was a huge honour for me to play in a big game like this for Celtic," he said.

"I have been working really hard since I came here and the gaffer gave the opportunity.

"I was a bit nervous when I found out this morning - we got the team yesterday - but I kept it simple and I think I came out okay.

"You can prepare are much as you want but if you come out and hear You'll Never Walk Alone you know it is a big thing.

"It was good for me to come out with a clean sheet.

"It was probably the biggest game I have ever played in my career but the gaffer told me to keep it simple, defend first and foremost.

"It will be a tough game in Trondheim but we will go there with ambition.

"It is a good atmosphere and nice pitch.

"They had some good chances but we had some good shots from outside the box which on another day could go in."

And Rodgers declared himself satisfied with the players' display.

"It’s difficult, a young lad coming in at 19-years-old to a big game like this," said the Hoops boss. "He acquitted himself well.

"He is only going to get better, he has the tools there and i believe going forward he can be a very good young player.

"He just needs experience of playing and feeling the pressure of the big games."

Meanwhile, Rodgers has dismissed a move linking Erik Sviatchenko to Besiktas on a season long loan deal. "I'm not aware of anything. It’s speculation," said Rodgers.

He also played down the sight of a limping Scott Brown at the end of last night's game.

“We’ll assess that over the next couple of days. But he’s a hardy boy.”
