JORDAN THOMPSON hopes he can fulfil two dreams this term as he bids to make his big breakthroughs for Rangers and Northern Ireland.

The 20-year-old impressed during a loan stint in the Championship with Raith Rovers last season and has spent the summer training with Pedro Caixinha’s first team squad.

Thompson hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the Gers since the coming off the bench during the second half of the League Cup win over East Stirlingshire twelve months ago.

But he was part of the Northern Ireland Under-21 side, who are managed by former Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough, that beat Estonia in a European Championship qualifier last month.

Now he is eager to finally make his mark in Light Blue as he bids to earn a spot in Michael O’Neill’s squad sooner rather than later.

“We have a new manager and he just wants us to keep playing football as much as we can and keep working hard,” he told RangersTV.

“That was a brilliant result and to kick off the campaign like that was amazing. Steve Davis sent us a video message beforehand which was brilliant and got all the boys up for it.

“Michael O’Neill has got it going right through the full system. We’re hard to break down, but everyone wants to be on the ball and wants to impress to try and get that step-up to the first team.

“A few of the 21s boys were actually away with the first-team at their training camp in Manchester, and we are all desperate to break through.

“Whenever Ian first came in, he gave us a real insight into what he is like and he’s like one of the lads as well.

“Michael, a few months ago, came over to watch one of our games when we were away, and he was telling us how he’s always keeping an eye on us, and if I make a few appearances for Rangers’ first team then that’s going to be massive and only going to help me.”
