I thought it was sad to see the space were the Green Brigade normally stand lying empty on Wednesday night.
To be honest, I didn’t think that the atmosphere was hugely affected by their absence but seeing an empty space and knowing the reasons as to why brings an unnecessary adverse publicity to the club.
I only hope that there can be some resolution to the current situation but I do think that certain elements of behaviour have to be taken on board.
I agree wholeheartedly with what Brendan Rodgers said on the matter. I would disagree with anyone proclaiming that Celtic is a vehicle for political expression. It never has been and never will be.
As I said last week, it is one thing to celebrate your Irish roots – as any Celtic fan is entitled to do so – but that is an entirely different entity to glorifying something that is far, far removed from that.
You can support the team and support the club without bringing other aspects into it.
Hopefully that is something that can be taken on board because otherwise it is difficult to see the club putting up with the kind of circus that we witnessed this week.
Whether it was a distraction or not in the build-up to a pretty significant game is another matter but the scenario in itself was entirely unnecessary and there was little choice on the part of the club to act in the manner in which they did.
