Morton defender Ricki Lamie is back in contention for Saturday's game away to Dumbarton after revealing that he his achilles injury is nowhere near as severe as initially feared.

Scan results have shown inflammation and bruising but no lasting damage, news which has delighted te 24-year-old who had braced himself for a spell on the sidelines.

A Betfred Cup tie against Queens Park in mid-July caused the problem when an opposition striker caught Lamie on the back of the ankle but the player is already looking towards getting the boots back on.

“It happened near the end of the Queen’s Park game: I stepped across the striker to shield him off and as I did that he trod on my Achilles," he told the Greenock Morton website.

“It’s an awkward bit of your foot, a sensitive bit of your ankle with nothing to protect it, just the tendon running up. Even your shoes are rubbing off it for example.

“It was a sore one and I thought it was going to be a lot worse. I went for a scan and got my results recently, and thankfully they came back and said there was no tear and no damage, that it was just bruised and inflamed.

“That was what I was wanted to hear; it was perfect feedback. So I’m back running and stuff; I did a good bit yesterday and today, and I’ll be in tomorrow for a bit of extra running with Hagi [Craig McPherson].

“I’m feeling fit and raring to go and get back into it. Fingers crossed I’ll be fit enough to at least be available to be considered for Saturday if the gaffer wants to include me.”
