PEDRO CAIXINHA reckons his summer recruits will have to adjust to the physical nature of Scottish football after admitting he has been surprised by the style of play in the Premiership.

The Portuguese has overhauled his Ibrox squad in recent months as the likes of Fabio Cardoso, Carlos Pena and Alfredo Morelos all arrived in Glasgow.

Caixinha claimed Mexican striker Eduardo Herrera was marked ‘very aggressively’ during the top flight win over Motherwell on Sunday.

But he is confident his Light Blues will quickly settle into their new surroundings and get up to speed this term.

Caixinha said: “Yeah, definitely. It’s definitely much more [physical] than I was expecting.

“When I was here for example on the coaches courses to take my badges I understood them to be really tactically orientated. The sessions are organised regarding one formation and one content and working on that basis.

“I understand on the basis of that Scottish football is dominated by tactics. For me tactics should be dominant but it looks like in the real world that physicality is the main content of the majority of the Scottish teams.

“I’m not against or for. It’s just a different way to see the game.

“For me the most important thing is about decisions, and the decisions are tactical and not physical. You need to be fit to play a football match.

“You have to understand the physicality that you have is different from other teams because you play differently. That’s the way it is.

“Never [I would never change my philosophy]. Not even adapt it. [It’s about] knowing how to deal with it and know how to get hold of it, but never [change].

“Otherwise I lose my identity and if I lose my identity I will be nothing. No one.”
