ABERDEEN have used the arrival of new striker Stevie May to pay tribute to the most glorious night in their history.
The former St Johnstone striker yesterday penned a four-year deal at Pittodrie, ending a three-year spell in English football with Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End.
And the Dons revealed on Friday morning that they have bowed to popular demand by handing May the number 83 shirt, a reference to the month and year of the club's Cup Winners' Cup final victory over Real Madrid.
By popular demand we are delighted to announce that Stevie May will now wear no. 83 for The Dons! Welcome 'May 83'! 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️ #StandFree pic.twitter.com/P7TEhaFEII

Alex Ferguson led a side featuring the likes of Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish and Willie Miller to a 2-1 win after extra time over their illustrious opponents in Gothenburg.
The triumph was the crowning glory of a golden era for the north-east club, when they won three league titles, four Scottish Cups, a League Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in addition to their Cup Winners' Cup title in the space of six years.
