PEDRO CAIXINHA is set to receive an injury boost ahead of the visit of Hearts this weekend as captain Lee Wallace eyes a return to action.

The left-back was a late withdrawal from the side that beat Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup last Wednesday after feeling his quad muscle during the warm-up.

Lee Hodson deputised for the 6-0 Ibrox win and then kept his place in the starting line-up for the Premiership clash with Hibernian on Saturday.

But SportTimes understands that Wallace is likely to be available for selection when Hearts make the trip to Ibrox for a crucial Premiership clash.

The 30-year-old went for a scan last week to determine the extent of the injury and he was not risked for game against Neil Lennon’s side.

Hodson only lasted 45 minutes at Ibrox as he and Daniel Candeias were replaced at the break following a tactical reshuffle by Caixinha in the aftermath of Ryan Jack’s red card.

And the Northern Irishman could now find himself back out of the starting line-up if Wallace is deemed fit enough to take to the field against the Jambos this weekend.

Rangers will go into the meeting with Jon Daly’s side determined to make up for the 3-2 defeat to Hibs as they attempt to get back to winning ways in the top flight.

Caixinha confirmed after the match on Saturday that Rangers will appeal the dismissal of Jack after referee John Beaton controversially sent him off for his part in an incident with Anthony Stokes just before half-time.
