It would be good for Scottish football’s sake to just see Jamie Walker playing again.

I’m a big fan of him. I watched him come through the ranks at Hearts, and the club is in his blood. His great, great uncle, Tommy Walker, is perhaps the foremost Hearts figure of all-time as a player and a manager.

It’s been sad to see what has happened. Ian Cathro’s words were that his focus had dropped when he was in charge.

Rangers have been linked with him for a long time, and it has been hanging over him. And the transfer window still has a few weeks left to run.

I would certainly like to see him playing football soon. I felt a few months ago that he should have been someone who was on Gordon Strachan’s radar, and actually should have been in the Scotland squad given the level of his performances.

Rangers have obviously identified him as someone who could come in and make a real difference to them, and I’m sure they will go in for him again if they see him as the missing piece of the puzzle.

For Walker’s sake, as well as the national team, it has to be hoped he gets his future sorted out as soon as possible and regains his focus.
