STEWART Dickson admitted Glasgow had thrown away the chance of another away win as they surrendered an eight-point lead to lose at Redcar on Thursday night.

The Ashfield men took control in the fixture early on and looked comfortable going into the second half of the match.

The Bears had a stroke of luck when the Tigers' Nike Lunna hit the deck while leading heat eight - and with Tom Perry already out the race, it was a 5-0 to the home side, which pulled them back to within three of the visitors.

But Glasgow then failed to take the chance to see the meeting through from there, conceding four 4-2s in the last five heats to lose 47-42 and take just one point away, instead of the four they had targeted.

It was reminiscent of a similar scenario in the Tigers' visit to Workington last month, when they let a 10-point lead slip.

Third-placed Glasgow have now fallen further behind Sheffield and Ipswich, who occupy the top two spots of the SGB Championship - and could drop to fourth if Edinburgh beat Ipswich tomorrow.

Team manager Dickson said his side's team riding had let them down in the latter stages.

He said: "I'm pretty disappointed - we basically threw it away again, it was almost like a Workington repeat.

"It was slightly different in the fact that we were eight points up and Nike had a bit of a crash, after Tom Perry got excluded in the first running of heat eight when we'd been on a 4-2.

"Nike was winning the re-run and all of a sudden he picks up a bit of drive, and the fortunate thing is that he's not too badly hurt.

"But it went from us having the chance to be 10 up to being only three up in the space of 60 seconds.

"And then there was a lack of team riding, which I commented on at the Workington match as well - we're not looking for our partners coming off the second turn, which is something that's beginning to creep in a wee bit to our riding.

"I've spoken to the riders about that because it's costing us some points. We've been in cruise control and thrown away two matches now."

Dickson insists his side will keep on fighting but that opportunities to pick up big points on the road are diminishing.

He added: "All we're doing is giving teams a chance to get back in it.

"We're making things really difficult for ourselves and it's another away match gone, which we could and should have won - we had a tremendous opportunity because Redcar were under-strength.

"We're all down, but we're all in it together and we need to sort it out.

"We're going to have to stick in and start helping each other on the road.

"We are running out of away matches to be where we want to be, which is at the summit of the league at the end of the season."

Glasgow now head to Newcastle on Sunday - a track where they won earlier in the season - seeking further points in their playoff push.
