Scott Brown believes that Celtic will see the best of Stuart Armstrong again now that the midfielder has agreed new terms with the Parkhead club.

Armstrong has been in the midst of a contract impasse with Celtic, however it is expected that a verbal agreement that was clarified between the club and his representatives on Wednesday afternoon will be concluded in writing today.

It brings an end to a long-running saga and Brown was delighted with the news.

“It is good for all parties,” he said. “We all saw what Stuart brought in the second half of the season and I am sure he will feel a bit more settled now.

“It can be difficult in a situation like that. There are all sorts of things going on and you’re not sure what the next move might be so getting it sorted will be a weight off his mind. Hopefully now he can get the chance to concentrate totally on his football and that can only be good news for us.”

Meanwhile, Celtic’s talks with Patrick Roberts remain ongoing.

The Parkhead side have the Champions League to use in any bartering with Manchester City. The English giants want the winger to stay in the Premier League or possibly go to Nice in order to continue his development, but the player’s own preference is for a return to Glasgow.

Nice lost 2-0 to Napoli in their UEFA Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday evening, meaning that Celtic could offer the player exposure to the group stages, something that could be off the table at Nice, depending on what happens in the second leg next week.

Certainly, Celtic remain committed to bringing the player back and Roberts himself is increasingly frustrated at the lack of game time as the season gets into full swing.

There will be money available for Brendan Rodgers to spend before the window closes but so far as Brown is concerned, the Hoops manager will have his own ideas about what he wants to do with it.

Celtic will make at least £25m from their participation in the Champions League, added to the profit they made from the tournament last term.

“I wouldn’t be interfering with that side of it,” smiled Brown. “The manager and Peter [Lawwell] will know themselves what they want to do and have an idea of what they are looking for.

“As players we always welcome new additions to the squad although right now we feel as though we are in a pretty good place. Our only focus as players is on getting better and going out and doing our talking on the park.

“The manager will do what he things is right and I think you can be sure that he wouldn’t just bring in players purely for the sake of it.”
