Young Partick Thistle left-back James Penrice has joined Livingston on loan until January.

The 18-year-old has made two appearances this season for the Jags in the Betfred Cup, but will now look to gain further first-team experience with the Championship club after a temporary spell at East Fife last year.

Livi manager David Hopkin said “I’m delighted to bring James in as he always impressed me when playing against us with East Fife last season.

“He can play in a variety of positions – left back, left wing back, left midfield – and he’s also played left centre half on a few occasions. James will give us a bit of cover in the defensive area which we have been lacking. He is a very good player and a will fit into our philosophy at the club of young, energetic, hungry players who are good footballers.

“I’m looking forward to working with James, as technically he is very good. Plus he’s a local lad and I’m sure he’ll relish pulling on his hometown club’s jersey.

“James will have to bide his time and wait for an opportunity as the boys that have been playing have been outstanding of late. But it’s a long season, and he brings a bit of competition for the lads already here.

“I’m really happy with how the squad has shaped up and the quality of the lads within it. We have a very good balance which hopefully will stand us in good stead for the forthcoming season.”
