BRIAN KERR was furious with his Albion Rovers side as they slipped to a derby defeat to Airdrieonians on Saturday.

Joao Vitoria had pulled the hosts level at Cliftonhill after Ryan Tierney fired the Diamonds into a third minute lead.

But Rovers couldn’t build on their equaliser as on-loan Hamilton kid Tierney doubled his tally for the afternoon and hit what turned out to be the winner after 17 minutes.

And boss Kerr was disappointed his side failed to hit the heights he expects as they slipped to seventh spot in the League One standings.

He said: “Quite simply we have set high standards and we dropped way below them today.

“What they gave me in terms of commitment was, for me, not good enough and we conceded some poor goals.”

Elsewhere in the third tier, there was late heartache for Queen’s Park as they missed out on a point away to Alloa.

The Spiders shipped five goals to Albion last weekend and couldn’t hold on at the Indodrill Stadium as Adam Martin broke the deadlock with just five minutes remaining.

QP remain bottom of the standings after three matches but boss Gus MacPherson said: “It was even but we lacked a bit of quality in the final third. After losing five last week I was looking for a reaction and I certainly got that.”

There was also a late blow in League Two as Clyde blew a two goal lead and were left empty-handed against Elgin.

Goals from David Goodwillie and Jordan Stewart put the Bully Wee in control after half an hour.

But Jamie Reid and Chris McLeish netted for Jim Weir’s side before Brian Cameron completed a remarkable comeback with a last minute penalty.

The defeat leaves Clyde with three points from three league games and boss Jim Chapman said: “How to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We are getting too good at it.”
