DOUGIE FREEDMAN is out of the running for the Hearts job after being appointed as sporting director at Crystal Palace.
The former Nottingham Forest manager applied for the vacancy at Tynecastle following Ian Cathro’s sacking, saying he would welcome the chance to work under former Scotland boss Craig Levein.
Freedman made 330 appearances for Palace as a player over two spells, as well as managing the club between January 2011 and October 2012.
The 43-year-old’s last management role with Forest ended when he was sacked in March 2016 and he will now work alongside new Eagles boss Frank de Boer at Selhurst Park.
"I felt this was a position the club needed," said the Dutchman.
"I always worked with a sporting director during my time as manager at Ajax - I am looking forward to working with Dougie in this transfer window and beyond."
Palace have begun their Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats against Huddersfield and Liverpool and face Ipswich Town in the second round of the League Cup tomorrow evening.
