ANDY LITTLE reckons Rangers fans will see an improved Josh Windass at Ibrox this season now that he has got his confidence back in Light Blue.

The midfielder endured a frustrating first campaign north of the border last term following his move from Accrington Stanley.

But he has been given a chance to impress by boss Pedro Caixinha in recent weeks and started all three of the GersPremiership clashes.

Glasgow Times:

Little spent time on loan at the Crown Ground alongside Windass and is confident there is plenty more to come from the 23-year-old in the top flight.

He told SportTimes: “I think with Josh, he was the star man at Accrington and he thrived off that and he was confident.

“He was borderline cocky, which you need, and he had that aura about him when he stepped on the pitch.

“I feel last season he was a bit like a rabbit in the headlights but now he has got a year under his belt and everyone is seeing what he is capable of.

“I have been at the games and you see the fans. As soon as he gets the ball now, it is like the Barrie McKay effect and everyone gets excited and the bums are off the seats.

“I am delighted for him and I know that he is really enjoying it. I think you will see a different Josh Windass this season, definitely.”

The return to top form of Windass would be a major boost for boss Caixinha as the Englishman looks to make the most of his second chance to shine at Ibrox.

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign for Rangers as they have followed-up their Europa League exit to Progres Niederkorn by taking just four points from their Premiership clashes with Motherwell, Hibernian and Hearts.

Many Gers fans are concerned with a lack of cutting edge from Caixinha’s side but former Light Blues forward Little is believes the attacking responsibilities will be shared around this term.

He said: “I think every manager and every team wants a 20-goal a season player but they are not easy to come by.

“These boys have only just come to the club so let’s give them a chance. We are only a few games into the season.

“(Alfredo) Morelos has shown that he can score goals and Kenny (Miller), you know that is part of his game.

“Everyone would love a 20-goal plus a season man. If the club are looking for one, great.

“If not, I think there are players throughout the team that can score goals.

“Windass is capable of contributing like he did when I was with him at Accrington and he scored plenty.

“I don’t know the club’s business. But I am sure everyone would like a guaranteed 20 goals a season, every manager wants that.”

Rangers are five points off the pace in the Premiership after they were held to a goalless draw by the Jambos at the weekend.

The spotlight is on Caixinha ahead of the trip to Ross County but Little is confident the Gers can recover from a low-key start to the season.

He said: “I think it has been disappointing, there is no getting away from that.

“The fans are unhappy and you understand that because they have expectations, as all Rangers fans do. The players know that, they don’t need to be told that.

“There are a few new faces and if they didn’t know that when they signed then they will certainly know that now.

“You have got to try and be understanding and patient, but at the same time Rangers teams don’t get that.

“It has been a frustrating start, but the positives are that the team is starting to gel.

“On Saturday, they dominated the game and all they needed was the first goal. That has happened so often and you just need that breakthrough.

“I definitely think it will come good. It has just been a slower start than the players and the fans would have wanted.”
