Wayne Rooney scored his 200th Premier League goal but Raheem Sterling came off the bench to snatch a 1-1 draw for Manchester City against Everton.
In a frantic contest that saw both sides reduced to 10 men, Rooney’s second goal since rejoining the Toffees looked to have earned victory after Kyle Walker was harshly sent off at the Etihad Stadium.

City responded in the second half and substitute Sterling volleyed a fine 82nd-minute equaliser before Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin also saw red.
What they said
PEP: "We tried to find ways of attacking them and we did. We had opportunities and we never gave up." #mancity #cityvefc

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: “I prefer to win the game but there’s nothing to say. It was quite similar to a lot of games last season.
“Sad because we want to start good at home but I don’t have regrets. We created chances again, a lot. They had one on the target, they scored.”
Everton manager Ronald Koeman: “You know even with one less player on the pitch, City is that high-quality team that they will create and they will play.
“They have different options and that made it really difficult. It is a good point, happy, we worked hard for that point and, okay, go into the next.”

“Calvert-Lewin made it difficult with his pace, strength & good headers. The position of number 9 is his best” – Everton boss @RonaldKoeman pic.twitter.com/Ad2e0ufsjf

Dominic Calvert-Lewin: Part of England’s triumphant squad at the Under-20s World Cup, he is flourishing in senior football. Proved a handful for the City backline, stretching the play and producing a fine pass for Rooney’s goal.

Premier League football tends to go hand-in-hand with razzmatazz these days, but the pre-match pyrotechnics were a little over the top. Blue flames were accompanied by fireworks in the Etihad Stadium stands – all well and good but it led to heavy fog that only fully dissipated midway through the first half.
